We’ve been following the progress of YouTube sensation Jessica Sanchez for quite some time now. We frequently post her videos here on MicahJesse.com. But, when we finally heard from the little starlet via MySpace – she wrote me a very sweet message to thank me for supporting her – we had to ask her some questions.

MJ: Jessica! Wow! You’re only 12 (right?) and you’ve already accomplished SO MUCH. You were on America’s Got Talent- WOW! What was that experience like? (and how old were you then?)
JS: I’m actually officially going to be 13 on MONDAY (Aug 4th)! yayyyy! I’m finally a teenager Micah, hehe! Yes, America’s Got Talent was so much fun! When the show started, I was 10 but I turned 11 during the season. I met so many cool people including Regis Philbin, David Hasselhoff, Piers Morgan, Brandy and one of my favorites, Simon Cowell who was super nice!
After that, Showtime at the Apollo called, then hosted by Whoopi Goldberg. That was an amazing experience too and I got to visit New York!!! But everything just sort of took off after my mom started posting some of my videos on YouTube.
MJ: On your YouTube channel, which currently has been viewed almost 400,000 times, you cover many songs from many different artists (Leona Lewis, Miley Cyrus, Chris Brown, Celine Dion, etc.) Other YouTube artists have done the same sort of thing (Mia Rose, Esmee Denters, etc.) – what do you think sets you apart from these other YouTube artists?
JS: There are so many great and talented artists on YouTube! I think one of the biggest things that sets me apart would probably be my age. I may be younger than them, but I’ve been doing this for a while now and I’m so ready for the next phase Micah. But because of my age, I think record labels are scared to do anything with young artists. To that I say, look at what Miley Cyrus has done, she’s on track to become a billionaire by the time she’s 20. If Disney or Nickelodeon were to call me tomorrow and say we want you, you better believe I’d be jumping on board!
By the way, I just want to give a shout out to my ENTIRE YouTube family…we are closing in on 10 MILLION, yes, 10,000,000 VIDEO VIEWS and I’m so grateful to have that kind of support from them, I LOVE YOU ALL and keep spreading the word ya’ll!!!
MJ: One of your more recent videos is a cover of Katy Perry’s “I Kissed A Girl,” a rather promiscuous song. Do you relate to other singers like Miley Cyrus, who just want to toy with the boundaries?
JS: You know, to me “I Kissed A Girl” is just another song I like. I’ve gotten some funky comments on that video and I understand that the lyrics might be a little too much for some people but it’s a fun song and I like it. People take things way too seriously. It wouldn’t be the #1 song in America for 6 weeks in a row for nothing, right?
And yes, I’m definitely testing what I can and can’t get away with…my YouTubers aren’t shy about letting me know their feelings!
MJ: Did you see the Vanity Fair spread where Miley Cyrus was draped with a bed sheet? If you did, do you think Miley deserved all of the bad press and attention she got?
JS: Yes, I did see them and I don’t really understand what all the fuss was about. The pictures in the magazine weren’t bad at all. To me, the pictures she took of herself with her cell phone were more crazy.
But one thing I’ve learned in Hollywood is that there is no such thing as “bad” press, right Micah?
MJ: Are you a “good girl” or rule breaker?
JS: hehe, that all depends on who you ask I guess! No I’m just kidding. I’m super shy and quiet especially when I’m around people I don’t know so I would have to say “Good Girl” all the way!!!
MJ: Who is the #1 musician you look up to for inspiration?
JS: Growing up, I have had so many musical influences such as Celine [Dion], Whitney [Houston], Christina [Aguilera] and Mariah [Carey]. But, right now, I have to say that Beyonce just has the total package that inspires me. She’s beautiful, she sings, she acts, she dances and she is successful at ALL of them. She is my inspiration!
MJ: Where do you see yourself…
a) 1 year from now?
A Freshman in High School!
b) 5 years from now?
Hopefully a hit album or two into my career and maybe even a successful TV show too!
c) 10 years from now?

Movie:
“Jeepers Creepers” because I just LOVE scary movies. I like to get freaked out when I’m not expecting it. But even if I’m expecting it, it still makes me SCREAM! hehe

“With You” by Chris Brown. OMgosh anything Chris Brown, I just LOVE him! I heard he was going to have a dance show, I don’t know if its true but OMgosh, Chris Brown Chris Brown Chris Brown!!! LOL!!!
Song to sing (and how it differs from your favorite song):
“I Kissed A Girl” by Katy Perry…its such a FUN song to sing and I can show a little attitude with it too, right? ;)
TV Show:
“Wizards of Waverly Place” on Disney Channel. Selena is going after that Disney Crown. Let’s see if she can grab it! LOL!
Place to travel:
I don’t get to travel out of California much but I loved New York when I went and also to Orlando when I went to record a few demos. Other than that, I love LA too!

I met Jessica on YouTube, and its amazing how likeable and down to earth she is. Just a well rounded person with an honest heart.
No ones mention this so I thought I would.. I was quite suprized at how unselfish and giving she is. Sure she has almost 400,000 channel views and 15,000 actual Subscribers.. but what stands out to me is, she has watched over 30,000 videos of other people. That says alot good about compasion toward others.
She has a God gift fot singing which obvious… but even more so she is the most beautiful human being you could ever know. We love Jessica more than she’ll ever know.
I think that Disney will just have to pass on a 12 year old that sings a song like “I kissed a girl” And the way she sings it is even worse. She is acting much too seductive for her age. I think she may have blown it until shes 18. I know I wouldn’t touch her at this age. I think Parents are looking for role models for their kids and Jessica just doesn’t appear to be that with the sexiness she portrays. My opinion
Well, Mr. Mike R ^, your opinion is noted. However, fortunately for all of Jessica’s fans all over the world, me included, Disney is not the only place for an upcoming artist of Jessica’s caliber and age to turn to. She could release an indie album right now and sell it on iTunes all on her own and probably make more than a majority of us right now.
Whether she sings an alternative choice like Katy’s “I Kissed A Girl” (which by the way she sang the he** out of) or a power ballad like Whitney’s “I Will Always Love You” the girl has shown she has the range to make hit after hit that she posts on her YouTube channel her own. Just because she sings a risky song lyrically doesn’t mean she’s practicing it, jeez…lighten up a bit! ;)
When I watch Jessica’s videos, I don’t see the sexiness that you refer to, where do you get sexiness??? We see her as an excellent entertainer that is confident in her ability to give her audience what they want. At this point, we EXPECT Jessica to come out blazin’ in all her videos, she’s set the bar high and tons of other YouTubers aren’t up to par. We’re not dealing with your average karaoke singer here. With the right team around her, this girl will go places in a hurry!
Keep doing you Jessica, you are more than on your way sweetie…and with Micah Jesse at your side, it won’t be long till you’ll be opening up for major acts in huge arenas soon!
