Emilio & Gloria Estefan Headed To Broadway!!!!!!!
…well, sort of!
Today, Estefan Enterprises and the Nederlander Organization announced they have begun to develop and produce a new Broadway show, inspired by the music made famous by International superstar Gloria Estefan and her husband musician/producer and entrepreneur Emilio Estefan.
The musical will be set in a way that tells the Estefans’ riveting life story detailing their journey all the way from Cuba to superstardom. Additional elements will be announced and worked through with a creative team that will be assigned at a later date.
With seven Grammy Awards and over 100 million albums sold worldwide, Gloria Estefan is the most successful crossover performer in the history of Latin music. No lie!
Don’t tell me you don’t know her hits — “Conga,” The Rhythm is Going To Get You” and “1, 2, 3″ among others. GLORIA is a celebratory favorite around the G-L-O-B-E!
She was won and been honored with practically a bajillion awards over the course of her career — including the American Music Award for Lifetime Achievement, MTV Music Video Awards, BMI Songwriter of the Year, and more and more and more. She was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame and has received multiple Billboard Awards for her many chart-topping hits.
Her hubby, Emilio Estefan, is a world-renowned music, television and film producer who has been instrumental in shaping, developing and directing the careers of his superstar wife, as well as Shakira, Ricky Martin, Jennifer Lopez, Marc Anthony and Jon Secada. With a resume that includes over 30 Grammy nominations and 19 Grammy Awards, Estefan has experimented and pushed the envelope of blending Latin, pop and world rhythms creating a unique style and personality that has created chart-topping worldwide hits.
“We are very excited to partner with the Nederlander Organization and Bernie Yuman to, after almost a decade of planning and developing, bring our music and life story to Broadway,” said Gloria and Emilio Estefan. “We are very excited to share this story, which is based on hope, determination and the belief that with hard work and passion, our dreams can become our reality. Our music has been a true reflection of who we are, where we came from and the journey that has brought us to where we are today. Our cultural roots, our life-defining challenges and the rewards that come with believing in yourself and striving for that which you believe in wholeheartedly, will be the foundation for this theatrical production. Sharing our life story through music will give us a new opportunity to honor our roots and, hopefully, to be able to inspire generations to come.”

Ricky Martin, the one-time booty shaking pop sensation, has slowed down the moves a little, and is focusing on his twins, Matteo and Valentino, and partner Carlos.
The adorable foursome gave the Spanish version of Vanity Fair an inside peek into their sweet world in a new interview titled ”The New Life Of Ricky Martin.” In it, there are an abundance of adorable photos, but the Puerto Rican singer, who received Spanish citizenship four months ago, also speaks in the interview about something a little more pressing: Spain’s law authorizing same-sex marriage, which is being challenged before the Constitutional Court.
“If they touch” that legislation, he said, “now, as a Spanish citizen, I would stand up and unite with my community.”
In the interview, which appears in the April issue of Vanity Fair, the global superstar also explains how he selected the egg donor for his song and rejects the expression “womb for rent.”
“I saw the photo and I said to myself: Who is this woman, so angelic, so transparent? I did not rent a womb. The fundamental conservatives use that expression. They loaned me an abdomen. I didn’t pay for it,” the singer confesses, adding that “I would give my life for the woman who helped me bring my sons into the world.”Read More

GLAAD Media Awards Honorees Announced!
GLAAD announced today its nominations for its’ 22nd Annual GLAAD Media Awards!
The two major honorees this year will be singer Ricky Martin, and Broadway/film actress Kristin Chenoweth.
At the GLAAD ceremony in New York, hosted by Bravo’s Andy Cohen, singer Ricky Martin will receive the Vito Russo Award, which is presented to an openly LGBT media professional who has made a significant difference in promoting equal rights for our community. Martin joins such celebs as Cynthia Nixon, Rosie O’Donnell, Alan Cumming, Nathan Lane, Elton John, and Tom Ford, who have all received the award.
“Ricky coming out was a game changer for many gay and transgender Latino children, who for too long, did not have many out gay people to look up to,” said GLAAD President Jarrett Barrios. “Through his music, videos and interviews, Ricky has sent an important message that our community wants the same things all people do: an equal chance to raise our families and take care of our loved ones.”
Kristin Chenoweth, who will receive her award at the ceremony in LA, will succeed Drew Barrymore as the receipient of the Vanguard Award which is presented to media professionals who have increased the visibility and understanding of the LGBT community.
Chenoweth made headlines this year when she responded to a controversial Newsweek article which incorrectly asserted that gay actors ‘cannot play straight roles.’ She defended gay actors including Sean Hayes, her co-star in Promises, Promises, and called on Newsweek to “embrace stories which promote acceptance, love and unity.”
Ricky and Kristin have both sent powerful messages of acceptance and equality throughout the year… and MJ thinks that GLAAD couldn’t have picked two more worthy honorees!Read More

VIDEO PSA! Elton John, Ricky Martin, Idina Menzel All Give A Damn!
Just say no to hate crimes!
Stars like Elton John, Rickey Martin, Wanda Sykes, and Idina Menzel have all teamed up for a very important PSA in conjunction with The Give a Damn Campaign, a project of Cyndi Lauper’s True Colors Fund. The PSA premiered on CNN’s “Larry King Live” on Monday (Oct 4).
In the U.S. one hate crime takes place approximately every hour of every single day.
In 2008, the most recent year in which such data is available, 7,783 incidents of hate crime were reported to the FBI.1 out of every 6 of these hate crimes is committed on the basis of sexual orientation.
Gay men and lesbians are the third most targeted group for hate crimes of the ones that are actually reported. It is widely believed that these numbers are significantly higher, as victims of hate crimes based on sexual orientation are afraid to report the crime to authorities.
Hate crimes can happen anywhere, at any time. They are dehumanizing, willful acts of bigotry perpetrated with the intent to intimidate. They may range from harassment and physical intimidation to beatings, rape, torture —even murder. Perpetrators commit these horrific acts to intimidate and terrorize a community, and to send a message about the victim and “their kind.”
“We as parents, as people, as a nation need to stand up and say enough is enough. We will not tolerate hate any longer,” said Cyndi Lauper. “Hate is learned and we need to teach our children that being different is okay. The best way we can do that is to lead by example and treat others with dignity and respect. No one should ever be bullied or harmed in any way because of their sexual orientation, gender identity, race, religion, ethnicity or anything that someone labels another as ‘different.’ Hate is a lose lose situation and its time that things final change.”Read More

Martin — who has dodged questions of his sexuality for years — just posted the following on his official website: “I am proud to say that I am a fortunate homosexual man. I am very blessed to be who I am.”
Martin says the birth of his twin sons led to his decision to come out — and according to the singer, “To keep living as I did up until today would be to indirectly diminish the glow that my kids where [sic] born with.”
Ricky’s kids were born in August 2008.
